Hearing Concerns:

Pediatric: Hearing loss in infants is estimated to occur four times in every 1000 births and 50% of these infants are normal and bornat full term. The average age for identifying hearing loss in children in the US is two and one-half years. Detecting hearing problems as soon as possible after birth is vital to normal speech and language development. For further information concerning your baby's hearing, please review Your Baby's Hearing Checklist here.

Adult: Exposure to loud noise can injure the inner ear and produce hearing loss. Noise induced hearing loss is often temporary, but will become permanent with repeat exposure. Examples of noise which can produce loss of hearing include gunfire, extra loud music, work related noise, woodworking saws, lawnmowers, leaf blowers, etc. Noise exposure that is related to hobbie or enjoyment of other types is just as damaging to the ear as noise in a textile factory. To help protect your hearing, simply wear earplugs or muffs. When choosing an ear muff, look for the NRR or Noise Reduction Ratio rating on the package. The higher the number, the better the protection.
